Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is marked by pain, numbness and weakness of the hands and wrists. It is often found in people who perform repetitive daily tasks with the fingers or hands, such as computer users, assembly line workers or musicians
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a painful progressive condition caused by compression of a key nerve in the wrist. It occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist.
As symptoms worsen, people might feel tingling during the day, and decreased grip strength may make it difficult to form a fist, grasp small objects, or perform other manual tasks.
What has the Spine got to do with your wrist pain?
Research shows that the cause of carpal tunnel syndrome may be coming from a problem in your neck known as the double crush syndrome.
Through bones in the back of the lower neck, the median nerve that is responsible for causing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is connected to the spinal cord. If any of these particular bones change position or lose normal movement, the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel can be felt all the way down to the wrist and fingers.
A chiropractic examination at our clinic can help you determine if your carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by spinal misalignments. If it is, our chiropractor can then analyse your neck area and make slight adjustments to the bones to lessen any unwanted pressure on, or damage to, the median nerve.
