Growing Pains in Children

Children can suffer from spinal or joint pain as well. Often it’s misdiagnosed as “growing pains.” If not corrected, growing pains may lead to bad posture and gait, painful movement and permanent spinal distortion.

According to the paediatric community, a significant number of children are inflicted with growing pains. In rare cases, pain can become severe and symptoms such as swelling, fatigue, loss in weight and limping may arise.

Tackling Growing Pains with the Chiropractic Approach

On September 2006, Research update from the International Chiropractic Paediatric Association (ICPA) reviewed a case study of a 3-year-old boy who underwent chiropractic care. The young boy was suffering from leg and lower back pain. In addition, he experienced headaches and bed wetting.

A chiropractic examination revealed the presence of subluxations and the boy was subsequently adjusted. After the first adjustment, the patient did not complain of leg pain for 3 days, and by the last visit, the child had, and remained symptom-free for almost 3 weeks. The author's conclusion of this study was, "This case report provides supporting evidence of the effectiveness of chiropractic care in children with growing pains."

My daughter Emily has been having a problem with her left shoulder since she was three or four years old. I tried to massage it but the relief was only temporary.

Only when she tried chiropractic treatment did Emily begin to feel better on her shoulders. It is not much of a problem now but she still continues with the treatment just to make sure that the problem will not come back.
