What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a progressive curvature of the spine. There are a few types of scoliosis:

1. Congenital scoliosis means that a person was born with an abnormal curvature.

2. Habitual scoliosis is caused by bad habits like carrying a bag incorrectly or poor ergonomics when sitting.

3. Idiopathic scoliosis means it has an unknown cause.

Early detection is key to correction and prevention of scoliosis. Severe cases may involve surgery that attaches metal implants through incisions into the back of the spine to force it to straighten.

Signs of scoliosis may include:

• One shoulder blade that is higher than the other
• One shoulder blade that sticks out more than the other
• Uneven hips
• A rotating spine
• Problems breathing because of reduced area in the chest for lungs to expand
• Back pain
• Inflexibility
• Posture issues

Some of the causes of scoliosis include carrying heavy backpacks, bad posture at the computer, bad sitting posture, and injuries such as slip and fall.

Chiropractic care for scoliosis provides an alternative and simple solution without the need for invasive spinal surgery to reduce the severity of the spine curvature. Our doctor will recommend an individualized treatment plan after a thorough assessment of the spine condition and degree of curvature.

Hear From Others

“I was diagnosed with scoliosis and the doctor recommended me to wear a brace for one year. I could not bend my back and experienced fatigue and pain at my lower back and spine while standing and walking for long periods of time. The relief from my massage chair was temporary and the pains and stiffness comes back the next day.

My brother-in-law recommended me to Chiropractic First as his son’s condition improved tremendously. After starting on chiropractic care, I can stand and walk without any pain at my lower back. The best part of it is that I do not have to wear a brace. My life has improved significantly, and it is all thanks to Dr Zachary and his team for the excellent service.”
